Heavy Equipment Mechanic:
Blue Star Construction Corp. requires an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic. Duties include (but are not limited to); repair, overhaul, maintenance, service, recondition. Instruct apprentice, order parts and maintain inventory, keep maintenance reports and documentation. Welding experience required.
Other tasks will include troubleshooting and inspecting equipment to defect faults and malfunctions, determine extent of repairs required, adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts. Test repaired equipment for proper performance, clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work. Service attachments and working tools verify and repair emission control systems.
Construction Site Super:
Blue Star Construction Corp. requires an energetic, motivated and career-minded Construction Site Supervisor responsible for the supervision of all construction activities that take place on the work site, ensuring consistently high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
The Construction Site Supervisor will be responsible for the management of all on-site construction workers and enforcement of all required safety and work regulation policies. The Construction Site Supervisors shall ensure the efficient use of labor, machines, and materials by their crews, and will report on such things as personnel, costs and safety. Other responsibilities will include the planning and scheduling of work, maintenance of records for all materials used and the progress made on a job.
While this job is mainly a position of supervision and management, the Construction Site Supervisor may be required to assist in construction work on an occasional basis. Construction Site Supervisors must be familiar with union contracts and procedures.
Blue Star Construction Corp. requires a Construction Surveyor. Responsibilities include; lead a survey crew on a daily basis, ensuring adherence to all site procedures and policies, gathering field survey data for quantity surveying requirements, confirming the accuracy of various aspects of the works related to the project, layout or staking of the works as it relates to highway construction, setting controls for site referencing and localization, research construction design drawings to ascertain information required to support survey work, maintain field data records and survey project files, load and download the surveying equipment, interpret information on drawings, sketches, charts, and construct or create draw drawings, sketches, charts, etc., other survey related duties as assigned.
The Construction Surveyor should posses the following qualifications; field and computer surveying experience, strong knowledge of land surveying practices and techniques, thorough working knowledge of robotic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, experience in both conventional and GPS survey and data processing, experience in survey data collection and processing, and working with coordinate systems, experience with AutoCAD, Carlson Software/Civil 3D, Topcon 3-D Office, and Microsoft Office programs, strong leadership, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, and field and office personnel. Must hold a valid Ontario driver’s license and a good driving record.
Blue Star Construction Corp. requires an experienced, knowledgeable, motivated and career-minded Estimator to be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labour. He or she should possess significant in-field experience in the areas of earth moving, earth excavation (buildings), and roads and highways and a well-developed knowledge of the bid process, particularly with contracts and identification of scope of work. Those with exceptional calculation skills in both hand and digital takeoffs desired. This individual’s accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business, as under-estimates may cause significant financial losses and over-estimates may result in the inability to win bids. Other duties will be assigned as necessary, including preparing and maintaining a list of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors, and establishing unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors and location impacts.
Float Truck Operator:
Progress Earthmoving Limited requires a Float Truck Operator to drive and operate a Float Truck equipped with a single winch, to load and move equipment; or with the use of a float (flat bed trailer) to pick up, transport and unload, from and to various locations within the work area. This equipment will be loaded and unloaded onto the truck or float with the use of the truck’s mechanical winch. All duties of the Float Truck Operator are to be performed according to Progress Earthmoving Limited’s operating procedures in order to maximize the safety of all personnel at the work site and to efficiently perform the task.
The Float Truck Operator may be required to load and unload the truck, and may be required to use automated routing equipment. AZ Class 3 year driver’s license is required.
The Float Truck Operator will work in the cab of the truck while driving, and outside when needed to load or unload, and may encounter all kinds of road, weather and traffic conditions. The qualified applicant must possess the ability to work without direct-supervision, and deliver the load on-time and in a safe manner that complies with regulations. Weekend work and overtime may be required.
Blue Star Construction Corp. requires an energetic, dedicated and career oriented Grade Person who will be responsible for carrying out surveying duties of the organization through the use of highly specialized GPS grade control systems and other surveying tools. This individual will utilize laser levels to determine accurate measures of angular deviation, horizontal, vertical and slope distances, recording all survey data accurately to be used for site survey purposes. The Grade Person will further be responsible for performing on-site monitoring of construction activities to ensure work performed fully adheres to specified and established grades.
Heavy Equipment Operator:
Blue Star Construction Corp. is currently hiring Heavy Equipment Operators who are experienced with the following machines: rock trucks, motor scrappers, front-end loaders, crawler dozers, motor graders, soil compactors, and other various pieces of equipment.
All operators must be 18 years of age or older to apply, must hold a valid driver’s license, must be able to commute to any project within and outside of the GTA. Blue Star Construction Corp. is part of the Local Union 793 with Operating Engineers. Apprentices are welcome to gain experience in the earthmoving field. Job postings are limited, please apply within. Work to begin early spring to the end of December. All operators will be trained in Health and Safety, and must abide to all safety laws and regulations.
